claiming his death proves they were absolutely justified in passing legislation banning u.s. nationals from adopting any more russian children. they did that at the end of last year. partly in response to u.s. legislation, targeting russian human rights abusers. but also because of concerns held for a long time here by russian officials who say they are worried about the way russian orphans are treated in the united states. supporters of the adoption ban claim since the 1990s 19 other russian children have died after being adopted by americans. the russian government says it is very concerned about the welfare of russian orphans and says 60,000 have are been adopted over the last 20 years. the adoption ban is one of the key reasons why relations between the united states and russia are the worst that they have been in a long time. a line of politicians here and officials have responded to the death of this 3-year-old boy by effectively saying, we told you so. phil black, cnn, russia. >>> european scandal over mislabeled meat keeps getting big der. details of the latest recall foods where tr

% of the u.s. housing market. so that will be a critical read on recovery in the housing market and also a fresh look the consumer price index. we know that gas prices are squeezing. gas prices are 20 cents high they are week than they were the same time last year. 20 cents higher. and you're taking less out of your paycheck because of payroll tax holiday expired. for those of you really worried about gas prices in new york and chicago. you're going to hit $4 a gallon earlier than we ever have in the year. so brace yourself there. also brace yourself if you're a federal worker. you're facing a furlough, unpaid days off. you can blame the sequester. a controller for the office of management and budget said this won't happen until after march 1st. that's when the massive spending cuts begin if congress doesn't act the sequester. federal employees must give a 30-day notice before furlough. unions that represent the workers right now having a big part in how that's going to happen and when. but there are 2.1 million federal employees that fall under this cost cutting measure. so tough choice

clark, the court system in south africa appears quite different than that here in the u.s. i mean, this bag hearing looks like a trial, and because of that, the prosecution has had to show their evidence very early, almost immediately. you say that's a real disadvantage. >> it's a problem. it's a problem, jake. the prosecution has only just gathered the evidence. let's remember this only happened a few days ago and it takes a while for everything to shake out. it takes a while for us to know what the evidence tests out to be. we don't even know if it's really testosterone that was found in his house. we don't know what, if any, blood results from pistorius himself are and whether he was under the influence of testosterone. we don't know so much. i can see where things are not quite as tight as they should be. i agree with mark that certain things did fall apart today, and the fact that they were not wearing protective covering on their shoes is a loss. how big a loss remains to be seen because if the floor was not going to provide much evidence anyway, perhaps you haven't lost muc
